Kazarama Vianey was born in Tongo city located in the Rutchuru Zone in Eastern Congo on 18th August, 1970. He attended primary school in Tongo and Went on High School in Bishusha.
He started his military carrier in 1992 after democracy was introduced in Congo (the former Zaire of Mubutu Sese Seko).
The reason which pushed him in this service is because all tribes formed political parties according to their tribes, and some of them formed military tribe groups. Some tribes in the Kivu province formed the Bangirima Militias, which planned to chase all Kinyarwanda speaking tribes out of Congo. It was at this point that Kazarama Vianey formed an auto defence force called Abacombatants in order to protect the Rwandophone community in Bwito. He fought with Bangirima for about 2 years and succeeded to defeat them in Togo at which point he was proclaimed the chief of the city from 1993 to 1996.
In 1997, he created another Resistance Group to fight AFDL (a rebellion of Laurent Desire Kabila) which formed to remove Mobutu from power. In 1998 he created another resistance force against RCD-Goma (Rally for Congolese Democracy–Goma). In 2000 he went into negotiations with RCD-Goma where he convinced them to cease fighting and leave the region. When some of his men integrated with the RCD-Goma army, Kazarama decided to step down from his rank and then moved to the town of Goma where he started an association called ACOPA which was created to support the local people.
In 2006 he became a candidate for parliament membership of Congo, but failed to win the election. In the same year he joined Laurent Nkunda (the chief leader of CNDP Rebellion group) in Masisi and there he became a battalion commander in the Bwito region. While he was there he convinced many young people from the Hutu tribe to join the Nkunda’s cause which he believed to be honest and fair.
In 2009 Kabila negotiated with the CNDP of Nkunda, and Kazarama joined the Congolese Army with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel, where he was promoted to Vice President of the Soldier Payment Commission and Speaker of the FARDC (Congo Army) in the Kivu province.
In 2010 he was moved to south Kivu to help stop violence against women, and was amongst those who organised the meeting of International Women in Bukavu.
In 2011 Kazarama was not happy with Kabila’s leadership and he accused him of corruption on a high level, bad treatment of Congo soldiers, and even witnessed how Kabila cheated in the elections in Kivu and all over Congo. For that he refused to respond on the invitation from Kabila to attend his investiture ceremony in Kinhasa, and this caused him to be chased by the Congo army in January 2012. On 6th May 2012 he, Makenga Sultani, and several other army officers separated from the Congo army and started a Rebellion in the Virunga Mountains called M23 where he now works as the Speaker. Their aim is to change the social life of Congolese, promote democracy, and put an end to corruption and tribalism.
